What Your Windows Are Trying to Tell You

FacebookTwitterEmailShare

Just like the roof, the windows play a key role in regulating the comfort and energy efficiency of your home, on top of positively affecting your property’s curb appeal. As such, it’s important to be aware of certain warning signs that it’s time to invest in window replacement.

What Your Windows Are Trying to Tell You

In this post, the window experts at V. Nanfito Roofing and Siding discuss common warning signs and what they mean.

Drafty Windows

If your home is drafty even when the windows are closed, it means that window panes or sashes need replacing. This problem is due to poor weatherstripping, which in turn is a result of decay and weather damage.

Keep in mind that window frames tend to shrink over time, too, which means gaps will eventually start to form between the frame and the window case as your windows ages. Our solution to this problem is quite simple: just install replacement windows.

Water Leaks

Leaks that form around the edges of the windows are a rare occurrence. When they do manifest, it’s a clear warning that the window isn’t closing properly. This is mostly due to existing window damage or as a result of long-term decay on the aged windows. The best solution for this problem is to replace the windows completely, frame and all.

Gas Leaks

Double-pane windows have a gas fill between panes that makes the unit more energy-efficient. Eventually, though, the gas will leak, usually settling on the bottom between the panes. This causes the glass to warp inward, resulting in a more extreme form of condensation.

Another sign that there’s a gas leak in your windows is a “rainbow” mark between the panes of glass. Gas leaks are relatively harmless, but they will decrease the natural insulation of your windows, which will lead to higher energy bills over time.

As one of the top window companies in Connecticut, V. Nanfito Roofing and Siding will help you replace your old windows with better, more energy-efficient units. Call us today at (203) 639-1634 to learn more about our services.
