Vinyl Siding and Its Environmental Impact

The use of eco-friendly products in home construction plays an important role in the long-term health of our planet. Vinyl siding, one of the most popular exterior cladding choices across the country, is one of the most eco-friendly materials you can find.

Vinyl Siding and Its Environmental Impact

In fact, in terms of environmental impact, vinyl takes the lead over other leading exterior products. V. Nanfito Roofing & Siding, Inc., your local siding contractor, explains more below.

Better Environmental Impact Score

A recent report from the Building for Environmental and Economic Sustainability (BEES) software analysis tool revealed that vinyl siding has a better Environmental Impact Score (EIS) than other exterior products. It analyzed 11 impact categories to help consumers better understand how it measures up against other cladding in terms of environmental impact.

Compared with cedar board, vinyl siding has a lower impact in such categories as smog, global warming and ozone depletion. It is also better than fiber cement siding, having the most favorable performance in the non-carcinogenic category. Against brick and mortar, vinyl’s impact is only 11% in the smog category.

What Does This Mean?

In the combined EIS for all exterior products, vinyl siding is way ahead of the competition. Vinyl requires modest amounts of energy for manufacturing. Not only that, but it’s easy to install and recyclable, meaning it doesn’t accumulate in landfills the way other materials do. More importantly, the vinyl manufacturing process emits significantly lower levels of toxic chemicals than other materials, including mercury and silver.

At V. Nanfito Roofing & Siding, Inc., we have a wide range of vinyl siding options that suit the overall look of any home. Take advantage of the many cost and energy-efficiency benefits of vinyl when you work with us.
