5 Maintenance Tips to Keep Your Vinyl Siding in Top Shape

Vinyl siding is a popular choice among homeowners because of its durability and versatility. It also requires minimal upkeep, so it’s definitely an attractive option for those who don’t have a lot of time to invest in maintenance.

5 Maintenance Tips to Keep Your Vinyl Siding in Top Shape

In this article, V. Nanfito Roofing & Siding, Inc., a trusted provider of siding and roof maintenance services, shares five simple tips that will help keep your vinyl siding in superb condition.

1. Clean Your Siding Yearly

Set aside time once a year for thorough cleaning to remove dirt and debris. The start of spring  is a great time to do this because it allows you to wash away dirt and residue from winter storms.

2. Use the Right Cleaning Tools and Products

A mix of warm water and laundry soap is usually enough to clean vinyl siding. You can also use a garden hose or a pressure washer for rinsing or removing grime. Just don’t use a high setting for your pressure washer because it could damage the vinyl. Pay attention to your technique as well. Make sure the hose nozzle is aimed downward so that the water won’t go between the slats.

3. Check for Dirt Buildup and Damage

Inspect your vinyl siding on a regular basis. If you notice any damage, algae or grime, address the issue immediately. This is crucial in maximizing the lifespan of your vinyl siding.

4. Hire an Expert to Repaint Your Siding

If you want to update the look of your home’s exterior, painting your vinyl siding is a cost-effective way to do so. But before you go ahead with this home improvement project, make sure the entire surface of the siding is thoroughly cleaned. Don’t forget to coat it with primer too. Painting the siding can be a meticulous process, so you should highly consider getting a professional to do this for you.

5. Trim the Shrubbery Around Your Home

Watch out for tree limbs, branches and other debris that could potentially damage your siding especially when severe storms and strong winds occur. Vinyl generally has good impact-resistance, but it can still crack or puncture under extreme conditions.
