V. Nanfito Roofing & Siding, Inc. isn’t just known for providing top-notch roofing and vinyl siding. We also have a talented deck installation crew! When installing a new deck, there are a handful of patterns to choose from. The right pattern can add style and make your deck stand out. Here’s a quick guide to help you choose the right deck pattern.
This is one of the most common patterns for residential deck builds. It’s one of the easiest patterns to install, although depending on the size of the deck there may be a need for butt joints or splices. The butt joints will need to be staggered in different positions to reduce their visibility on the deck surface–something an experienced deck and siding contractor will take care of with no problem.
This pattern involves installing the boards at a 45-degree angle across the joists. A diagonal deck pattern can help increase the frame’s strength and prevents damage. It also makes it unnecessary to install sway bracing. However, this type of pattern may involve more labor costs because of the additional cuts needed for the technique.
A zipper pattern involves the intersection of two opposing diagonal deck patterns that combine in the center of the deck in a staggered orientation. The intersection at the center resembles the appearance of a zipper. Similarly, a herringbone pattern meets at the center but without the alternating zipper effect. As an offset pattern, an octagon can be decked to follow the shape of the frame.
