Replacing your siding is a big undertaking. To ensure the process goes as smoothly as possible, there are a few things you can do to prepare your home before your siding contractor arrives and the job begins. V. Nanfito Roofing & Siding, Inc. shares some tips below.
Remove Storm Shutters and Fixtures
Most of the siding work will be done outdoors, barring unplanned repairs to the wall structure. You can help your installers work more efficiently by removing storm shutters and window fixtures. Other removable house components such as downspout extensions should also be removed to prevent installers from accidentally damaging them. Landscaping and shrubbery can be covered by tarp or tied back.
Trim the Trees
If you have trees in your yard, look for branches that may be touching the roof, siding or gutters. Sharp branches may poke and scratch on exterior surfaces, including newly installed siding. They can also get in the way of the installation crew. If you’re not sure how to properly trim branches, hire a local arborist.
Clear the Yard
You will need to clear your yard so the crew can work without obstruction. Put away small items like toys into labeled containers, and store them in a safe place while the work is underway. When moving patio or deck furniture, take precautions to avoid scratching the flooring material.
Remove Hanging Indoor Decor
Siding installers will be hammering at the walls. This will create vibrations that could knock framed pictures and other hanging decor off the walls. Remove any such loose decor from the walls, including figurines, books and other items on the shelves. Take this opportunity to dust and vacuum the indoor sides of the exterior walls, including the curtains. In addition to preventing damage, cleaning up can also reduce the dust that swirls around during installation.
